Jodo Gasshuku in Dübendorf, Zurich

May 5, 2007

During one of our last year's events Charles Martig from Aikido Seishin Dojo in Dübendorf invited me to his dojo to participate in a Gasshuku under the direction of Yves Galley from Fribourg. As I was quite busy when the first Gasshuku took place in March I promised to come in May together with Rolf who is a member of our Heidelberg group.

It was quite hard for us to go there because I got up at 3 a.m. and left around 4 a.m. with Rolf to Zurich where we arrived at 8 h 30 a.m. Yves arrived just after us and our training started at 9 h 30 a.m. To put us in the right mood Yves made us make some exercises Jo against Jo by correcting quite a lot. This exercise was especially good for training the right angle and for using as little force as possible in order not to hurt the partner in case you touch him. To check this the partner put forth his hand onto which he was slightly hurt when the Jo came down. If the partner screamed because he was hurt with too much force then this had to be corrected (poor partner!).

These exercises were followed by kihon sotai by taking care of especially three points: first of all, put the upper arms against the thorax, then respect hanmin position which was not always correct, and finally correct the distance.

After having had a good lunch in an Italian restaurant we started again in the afternoon with kihon tandoku by taking into consideration the corrections from the morning training. The remaining time was mainly dedicated to various kata during which a great number of important points could be corrected.

Altogether we were a group of seven people and this was very nice. Charles had well organized this Gasshuku and I promised to come again, maybe in autumn.
