Jôdô Seminar in Groningen
The Netherlands, on October 22nd, 2005
In September of this year, a small group of people in Groningen (a city in the north of the Netherlands) took up Jôdô. Fred Quant was invited to meet, and teach them in a seven-hour seminar, on Saturday October 22nd.
In the morning session, kihon tandoku and sôtai were repeated many times. Most students had already studied the first four kihon; they were given kuri tsuke as a preparation for Tachi otoshi. The morning session ended with the eight-direction cutting exercise of kenjutsu.
After an excellent lunch, we were pleased to welcome eight people interested in an introduction to Jôdô. They practised the first kihon, and Tsuki zue; while the other students worked on Tachi otoshi. The seminar was closed with a small demonstration of kihon sôtai and some kata from Omote, and Chûdan, as well as Ran-ai.
We all enjoyed the spirit and practise of this seminar; and hope it inspired the students, who started just some weeks ago, to persevere in their practise!
