Kagamibiraki

Cartigny, Switzerland

The Kagamibiraki 2007 has been another success. More than 100 participants, a majority of the people who are accustomed to this event, and some 10 newcomers. This reflects the theme of the Gasshuku: "Strength is in the continuity - Keizoku wa Chikara nari".

As usual, the athmosphere was excellent, very family-like, and the training quite intense. One of the highlights was, just before the traditional "Banzai", the official presentation of the four new Shoden: Sylvain Creuzet (FR), Yves Galley (CH), Jean-Claude Hamel (FR) and Michael Söderkvist (SE). Each one received the calligraphy that corresponded to them (extracted from the history of Takeda Shingen) Fu-Rin-Ka-Zan, representing the four qualities of an army: fast as the wind, silent as the wood, devastating as the fire and inamovible as the mountain, in that order. We understand that we are talking about four different sections of that army, and not a sole group that would do all that at the same time.

The Gasshuku went on smoothly, with a nice athmosphere and a small benefit for the EFJ, the teachers being paid only to reimburse their travel expenses. As every year, we would like to thank warmly Jean-Pierre Pahud and his team (Georges Kraus amongst others) for the excellent organization.
