1st Jodo Seminar by Yves Galley in Rüsselsheim

18th to 20th February 2011

After we moved to Rüsselsheim about 20 km away from Frankfurt, our group also had to move and after more than one year we were finally able to organize a seminar with Yves Galley. Kerstin, who is the founder of our group, came on Friday afternoon from Vienna by plane, and shortly after that Yves arrived by train. We immediately started with training. Unfortunately, we were only four people, but the quality was not impaired at all. We did mainly Kihon Sotai and one hour passed really fast. After that, the pleasant part of the day started. My wife cooked for us, we had Spaghetti with Pesto and wine. The atmosphere was fantastic, plenty of telling and laughing.
The following morning, we still felt the wine a little bit, but that did not keep us from coming in time to the gym.
Other participants waited already, among others Matthias and Rolf. Because of a knee operation Rolf was unable to practice, but he wanted to be with us at least mentally. We started fully motivated with Kihon Tandoku for warming us up.
We then started with Kata. Problems were clarified before training started in a circle so that each one could train both ways. After lunch we continued where we had finished. Finally, we practiced Omote and Chudan.
Unfortunately, Matthias had to stop training after lunch because of his back pain, but verbally he tried to encourage us. Despite intensively training the two first Jo series we still had enough time to practice Kenjutsu Kata. Here, too, the intensity of the training did not differ from what we had done before.
To finish our first day we practiced once more Kihon Tandoku.
With the feeling that we had worked well, we looked forward to a common evening event. It started in an Anatolian restaurant with a kind of misfortune.
We had to wait for more than one hour for our dinner. We were told that the cook was ill. However, finally the dinner was served and the taste was finally a good consolation for the long waiting time. We then went back and almost everybody stayed in the gym overnight.
Due to what happened the evening before, this evening was rather pleasant and decent so that we had no problem to get up the next morning and to start again training after a relaxed breakfast.
Warming up was done with Kihon Sotai. Afterwards, Yves trained with each of us individually for half an hour by looking in detail at each Kata. At the end and for closing the seminar, we still had time enough to practice once more Kihon Tandoku.
And then it was already over and the weekend had passed very quickly. Yves left a lot of homework for us, but it was easy to say good-bye as we are sure that we will again organize a seminar with Yves in Rüsselsheim.
