Kagamibiraki

Cartigny, Switzerland

Our traditional happening of the beginning of the year gaethered nearly 130 pratitioners of the European jodo Federation (FEJ), from 6 to 8 January 2006. This year, we had the pleasure to have a group of Hungarians as well as a Greek. These two new groups have been officialized during the General Assembly, as well as the Russian Federation, Ukraine and a French group in La Réunion. We are very happy and honoured to welcome them in our Federation.

The seminar, although the hall was a little bit small, went very well grateful to the understanding of all. The theme of the Gasshuku was "Awase" (harmony) and has been developed during the two and half day of practice. The essential parts of the principles shown to us by Tiki Shewan Sensei during last fall's Kenjutsu courses have been transposed to Jo practice. Not confined to a particular style, these principles are giving our Jo a new meaning and a very fine touch. The more martial aspect of Awase in Kata Geiko has also been seen and was well appreciated.

On Saturday night, after the famous "Banzaï", preceeding the no less famous "Kampaï", Sébastien Botelli, Pascal's son, presented the 10 Jutte he made all by himself, to the Assembly. Fine work that will have to be done again, the 10 pieces having been purchased in the following hour. Just after that, the General Assembly of the FEJ, chaired by Barbara Meroni went without trouble (please see the GA report in the "FEJ structures section).

I repeat this every year, but this seems very important to me: this marvellous happening is possible, year after year, only g rateful to a very efficient help, and so "matter of fact" that we could forget to acknowledge it. Firstly, the teachers who are doing their best to help everyone, (and they are doing it free), Jean-Pierre Pahud, the main organizer who does a tremendous job since 6 years ago, Georges Kraus who seems to think that "the older we are, the more you do", Christina, taking a good care of everyone, Vincent Zanhd, and all those I forget and who helped cleaning the whole place. Thanks to all of them. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Hoping you will be many (but not too many) to come next year (5 to 7 January 2007), I thank you all those who have been so kind as to come to join us this year again. It is everytime with a great joy that I see them here at that occasion.
