SMR Gasshuku in La Réunion

For our Gasshuku at the end of this year we had the pleasure to welcome Gilles Tache from December 27 to 31.

On Dec. 27, day of his arrival, Gilles already gave us a first training from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The program included a deeper insight into the first six TANDOKU KIHON. During the following days until Dec. 30, we trained from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., giving us the possibility to study intensively the remaining KIHON TANDOKU, further the KIHON SOTAI, the KEN KIHON, the first six kata of SHINTO RYÛ KENJUTSU and the OMOTE series.

With Jean (coming from Lyon) who came recently to La Réunion it was possible to work on the CHÛDAN series until RAI UCHI.

On Dec. 31, Gilles and I had an early morning training for the last three kata of CHÛDAN which I hadn't the chance to study up to now.

But the event that impressed me the most was for me, the organizer of this Gasshuku, the examination session on Dec. 30 for half an hour. In an assiduous but also tense atmosphere, the group members received their 5th kyû (after three years of practice for two of them, Samuel and Patrick, and after one and a half year for Clara and Annie); Laurent got his 3rd kyû, a performance much appreciated by Gilles.

Everybody liked this Gasshuku that was just disturbed a little bit by that fact that we did not have enough sleep due to the late and numerous meals we had with Gilles (but to be honest, we liked it very much).

Thanks to our teacher and to the members of our group for their serious attitude.

La Réunion

This part of France, located in the Southern hemisphere of our planet, certainly knows how to receive guests. The warm-hearted welcome of La Réunion's group contributed to the fact that I really love this island. Frédéric, Maude (his wife) and Inel (their lovely kid) did every effort to make me discover their beautiful culture. Gastronomic specialties, visit of the island and promenade to the market have been a nice complement to one week of stern Jodo training!

From a technical point of view, we had mainly used the time to deepen the fundamental techniques. This small group is very motivated and I hope despite the distance that separates it from Europe you will one day have the chance to meet them during a Gasshuku. Thanks once more for your serious attitude and enthusiasm.

Gilles
