13th Würzburg Gasshuku

June, 19th to 20th 2010

Time is flying fast! This was already our 13th Gasshuku here in Würzburg with Michel and this time again with Kees because Coco was unfortunately not in the best shape to participate. Let's hope that he will have the opportunity to recover quickly! Altogether we were about 32 participants coming from several countries, among others from the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Switzerland and of course Germany. Everybody was pleased to meet again and to train together. In most cases, this training camp has always been the last one before our one-week summer camp takes place. It is, therefore, always a good preparation for the summer camp because we also start at 6 o’clock in the morning. I admit this is not really a pleasure for everybody but in view of the one-week training this seems to be a pleasure trip.

Anyhow, everybody was ready on Saturday morning for a comprehensive review of kihon tandoku that lasted for about one and a half hour. This year, our early morning training had to take place in the gym because of the cold weather. This was followed by an opulent breakfast prepared by two people from the club. I would like to thank them very much, because they do it every year, also on Sunday morning (and they are the same persons for 13 years now!). When we resumed training at nine o’clock (at that time we trained outside) we started with some exercises. Then, the rest of the morning was almost completely dedicated to already known techniques, while in the afternoon we divided into several groups according to the series.

As usual, Saturday evening saw us again at the restaurant up the hill from where we had a beautiful view over the city of Würzburg. This time, people tried in vain to make a picture of me drinking wine. I herewith swear that I only drunk non-alcoholic beverages!!!

On early Sunday morning, we started again as we did on Saturday with the only difference that some of the participants could learn a new kata and that our friend Joachim from the Frankfurt group passed his 3rd kyu. Congratulations! The afternoon was mainly dedicated to kenjutsu, allowing us to improve our ken techniques (I hope at least!).

And last but not least also great thanks to Michel and Kees who, as usual, did a fantastic job.
