Fribourg Gasshuku

from April 25 to 26, 2009

For the second Gasshuku in Fribourg 16 people gathered on Saturday morning. Participants from Germany (Matthias and Rolf), from France (Charles Forey) came to assist the Jodoka from Switzerland coming from Montreux (with Michel Ducret), from Saillon (with Giulio, Jean-Louis, Michel), from Zurich (with Charles, Flavia and Tristan), and of course the local group from Fribourg (with Séverin, Jean-Jérôme, Manu, Yvan, Céline and I).

The following day, we had the pleasure to welcome people from Valais (Giulio and his students) as well as from Montreux (Michel Ducret). Because of Michel's presence, the advanced participants had the chance to practice in detail Ran Ai and Kage, then every yudansha served as shidachi for the less advanced participants. We practiced quite intensively. Each training session started with one hour uchi-komi by practicing basic techniques (honte, gyakute, and hiki-otoshi), followed by kihon sotai and kata.

To benefit a maximum from the presence of Michel Ducret those who knew Kage could profit from Michel's sound knowledge. And the even more advanced had the chance to continue with Gohon no midare.

On Saturday evening, after having savored a well deserved aperitif at the marvelous farmhouse renovated by Manu (great thanks to him) we all went to Bulle, the capital of Gruyère, for a delicious fondue. We spent a happy, boozy evening!

However, this did not bar us from being up in the early morning (well, 9 o'clock, we should not exaggerate;-) for the first training session during which we polished our kata.

I would like to say great thanks to everybody and hope to see you - and maybe also some others - next year at the same period of time in Fribourg for the third Gasshuku.
